Be True To Yourself! Here Are Three Important Reasons Why

In a sea full of people, you must be true to yourself!

At some point in everyone’s life, we reach that time when we stop caring what people think. Some reach it sooner than others. Some only on their death bed while other’s have stood out as teenagers. You would think that being true to yourself would be an easy task, but society makes it one of the hardest things in life.

Unfortunately, I’ve only just begun to dig deep into that thought recently.

As a teenager, I didn’t quite fit in but I didn’t quite stand out either. No one really knew me because I blended into the background. I had so many ideas, thoughts and longings to do things differently, but resisted.

The idea of disappointing people and myself was unacceptable…and persistent.

Because of that, I became very resentful in my twenties. I started to branch out but still had that nagging in my head of disapproval from others. It was a horrible combination. In my heart, I wanted to do one thing.

But my head would convince me to do something else. Eventually, I got to the point where I didn’t even know who I was or what I wanted.

Now, in my thirties, I still struggle with knowingly disappointing others and have only started to figure out what it is I want in life. I’ll tell ya, it’s hard to be happy when you’re not satisfied!

Now, more than ever, it’s important to be true to yourself!

With everything going on in our world, things are rapidly changing. People are making themselves heard, no matter the cost. Whether we agree or disagree isn’t the point- people are tired of going with the flow, doing or being what they’ve been told to do or be and we’re all getting sick of it.

While not caring what people think is still something I’m working on, here is a list of three reasons why being true to yourself is the best thing you could ever do:

1.) YOU MAKE TRUE CONNECTIONS WITH OTHERS
One thing I remember distinctly about my twenties was trying to make friends where there were none. Not to say I didn’t meet good people, because I did. But, when you find yourself needing to be out in a social setting and drinking to enjoy yourself with these people, they may not be genuine connections. When you know and listen to yourself, you will sense with whom you have a true connection.

2.) YOU’RE ABLE TO REALIZE YOUR DEEPEST DESIRES
Like I said previously, as a teenager I struggled to find a place for myself. Not necessarily in school, but within my own likes and dislikes. Had I listened to myself, I would’ve realized a long time ago that music is the one thing that soothes my soul and I would’ve learned to play an instrument (or three). That would have done wonders for my self-esteem and confidence. I would have also traveled more! I’m much older now, but it’s never too late. Those are on my to do list!

3.)YOU WILL NEVER PLEASE EVERYONE, SO DON’T BOTHER
This one should be pretty obvious, but for highly anxious people pleasers like me, it’s the most hard to understand. Blame it on our faulty brain wiring! No matter how perfect you try to be, there will always be others who don’t like you. You can’t be friends with everyone. If you are, you probably aren’t being yourself. People can be jealous of you, angry at you or even scared of you. There’s no real rhyme or reason- it just is. Once you’ve gotten used to that idea, it becomes easier to be yourself. Just because you may not be the nicest person on the block doesn’t make you any less of a human being. No one is better than you!

If you’re dissatisfied in life, it may be because you aren’t being true to yourself. Hopefully, I’ve convinced you into diving deep inside and exploring!

There is noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you made certain nice points in features also.

Yes, there is so much more to this than just what I’ve written in this article. One day I will delve deeper into these individually. Thanks for commenting!
